This was a recipe we were taught at school (aged 12) in home economics class.

Ingredients
- 100g / 4 oz plain flour
- 50g / 2 oz wholemeal flour
- 75g / 3 oz butter / hard margarine
- 800g / 2 lb cooking apples
- 75g / 3 oz sugar
- 50g / 2 oz coconut / walnuts
Method
- Light oven to Gas 5 / 190C
- Sieve flour into a bowl
- Cut fat into small pieces
- Rub fat into flour until mixture looks like breadcrumbs
- Add coconut to the flour mixture
- Cut and core apples placing pieces in ovenproof dish
- Sprinkle apples with sugar and a little lemon juice (optional)
- Cover with crumble mix and bake for 25-30 mins till golden.
