Holmes-made Cheese Twisty Straws

A fun cheesy snack that you can make in 30 minutes on a rainy Sunday afternoon

Ingredients

  • 4oz plain flour*
  • 2 oz butter*
  • *Or pack of pre bought Shortcrust pastry
  • English mustard (wet or dry)
  • dried cayenne pepper or paprika
  • salt
  • grated cheddar and.or parmesan

Method

  • In a food processor (or by hand) rub fat into flour till mixture resembles breadcrumbs
  • Slowly add water till a pastry dough is formed (if mixing by hand use a dinner knife to chop in and mix)
  • Roll pastry between two greaseproof sheets to 0.5cm thick
  • Cover half the area with mustard and salt (you can add other flavours like dried paprika/garlic/cayenne pepper)
  • Cover the mustard side with a thin layer of grated cheddar
  • Fold the pastry in half covering the cheese.
  • Roll again to 0.5cm thick
  • Cut into 1cm wide strips and twist and place on greaseproof paper on a flat tray
  • Cover with extra cheese (grated parmesan)
  • Bake for 20-25 mins at 170C till golden
